President WIlson's 14 points

In January of 1918, the war was still going on. President Wilson was drawing up proposals that soon became know as his 14 points. These points were the President's way of achieving his own plan for peace.

• No more Secret agreements is truly lacking in today's world.We want to know what is going on in our country!This however is not the case today. If it was still present we would all know what is really located in area 51, all of the FBI and homeland security "secrets" (YOU KNOW THE ONES THAT DON'T EXIST), everything! Although I must say if everyone knew everything, things could get out of control; which is most likely the reason why things aren't that way anymore.

• Countries reducing weapon numbers(oh this is a good one). If countries really still abide by this kind of thing, there would be no need to worry about who's gonna nuke us next. We cannot guarantee that other countries aren't more advanced in weaponry than we are. WE JUST DON'T KNOW!!!! Sure we have allies, but do they really tell us everything? I highly doubt it, I mean heck we don't even tell them let alone our own people everything! There is no safe way to say that we know about every threat out there to our country, because we don't.

• " An end to all economic barriers between all countries"-- I couldn't resist putting this one in quotes! This is SoooOOOOoooOOoooooOOOo the opposite of today.  If this were still around, we wouldn't have to worry about gas and oil anymore!!!!! It'd make importing economic goods from other countries WAY EASIER!!!!!!

• Free Navigation of all seas. This one does exist today!!!!!!!! Granted during war, it can get a tad sketchy... but generally our ships can go anywhere they please, and the same goes for other countries as well. This one was one of the few if not only point that i believe still exists today.

I believe that the artist of this cartoon is trying to show that Americans have forgotten about WWI. And we all know the old saying,"If we do not learn about the mistakes made in history, history is doomed to repeat itself". The artist is, in  a way representing that. Plus! Half of our own M.W.H. Honors class didn't even know who Archduke Ferdinand was, nor did they know that his assassination basically started WWI.
So the artist is not only reminding it's viewers about history, but also teaching! This can been seen by examining the man's long beard, only the old and wise know/ remember this fact in history. Which SHOULD NOT BE THE CASE!!!!!!!!! Personally I think that you cannot be considered an American if you don't know diddly squat about American history.
I think this is a great comic to show that American citizens NEED to know more about their nations history. Without this knowledge in most of the countries population we are worthless! what's the point in having pride in a country that you don't know crap about!!!!!!!!!

Women during WWI

 


World War 1 changed the state of mind of the American society. One of the most influential ways (in my perspective) was it's outlook on women. While men were off fighting in the war women were taking their positions at their jobs. This showed that they had been highly underestimated than ever thought before. They could (and can still do today) men's work; sometimes even better than the men could. It gave America's women hope for the future in women's equality with men.








WWI Women's Posters

During World War One there was not a lot of emphasis on enticing women to join the military. Nurses  were the principal focus in terms of recruiting. The Navy and Marine posters using Howard Chandler Christy illustrations of women in uniform were designed to recruit men, not women. Many of the posters inviting women to join were simply printed messages saying they were needed and listing  an office address. In spite of "low level" recruiting over fifty thousand women accepted the challenge and served America both in uniform and with civilian agencies in WWI.

The Armenian Genocide

"In April 1915 the Ottoman government embarked upon the systematic decimation of its civilian Armenian population. The persecutions continued with varying intensity until 1923 when the Ottoman Empire ceased to exist and was replaced by the Republic of Turkey. The Armenian population of the Ottoman state was reported at about two million in 1915. An estimated one million had perished by 1918, while hundreds of thousands had become homeless and stateless refugees. By 1923 virtually the entire Armenian population of Anatolian Turkey had disappeared."

I don't know how anyone blogging about this could see this as a good thing. The Armenian genocide was a horrific event that consisted of the Armenian population of Ottoman empire being murdered. 1.5 million deaths. Just reading about this event made my jaw drop. who could ever stoop to conditions so low; as low as wanting these people to die and making sure certain things led to the death of them (such as forced marches).

They say "a picture is worth a thousand words" and they were right. this picture says it all.
GENOCIDE; Synonyms never seem to be created for words with a terrible meaning; genocide is one of them.

No matter what anyone says, my opinion to genocide will NEVER change. it was a horrific event that I hope to God never happens again.
